Today was the last day of school. During 3rd period, each teacher gave the students a certificate of participation, with the level they were in. Some of the Italian students were staying at the school in the afternoon to take the TIE test. They have been reading and preparing all week. Our students went to the City Center for shopping. Tonight we will be packing our suitcases. The bus to take us to the airport will come at 4:15 AM! We will sleep on the long flight from London to Hong Kong. Everyone has mixed feelings about going home. The girls like it here, but “There’s no place like home.”

This afternoon, after lunch, some of the girls made some origami ‘goodbye’ notes for their teachers and the other students in their classrooms, since tomorrow is their last day at school here. Some students then played volleyball. At 3pm we walked down to catch the Luas to go to the Dundrum Shopping Center. It is the biggest shopping center in Ireland, and up to a few years ago, it was the biggest in all of Europe. The girls shopped and then bought some dinner. At 6pm we went to the cinema to see “Toy Story 3″. We were given 3D glasses to wear while watching the movie. Everyone enjoyed the movie. After that, we all went home. ?

Today, after lunch, we went to the main headquarters of the Emerald Cultural Institute. It is located at 10 Palmerston Park, Rathgar, Dublin. The Emerald Cultural Institute began in 1986. Next year they celebrate 25 years of teaching English and sharing Irish culture with thousands of students from over 40 different countries. The school is located in ?a beautiful area. There is a park across from the Language Center. We met some Japanese students near the cafeteria who are here to study English for 9 to 12 months. We also met the Director of the ECI, Mr. Mauro Biondi, and the Director of Studies, Ms. Eithne Kelly. After our brief visit here, we went back to St. Raphaela’s. Some students just sat and talked, many played volleyball, and 2 studied and did their homework from Japan. This evening the students have a free night, so maybe they will start to prepare their suitcases. ?

This afternoon we went to St. Patrick’s Cathedral, which dates back to the 13th century. Jonathan Swift, the author of “Gulliver’s Travels”, was Dean of St. Patrick’s from 1713 to 1745. Also, Handel’s “Messiah” was first performed in this Church in 1742 by the combined choirs of St. Patrick’s and Christ Church Cathedrals. Here we also saw what is believed to be St. Patrick’s well. There was also the ‘Door of Reconciliation’, in which the Earl of Kildare cut a hole and stretched out his arm to shake the hand of his enemy, the Earl of Ormond, in 1492. This gesture led to peace. We also saw some beautiful stained glass windows. ?We spent a little bit of time in the beautiful green gardens behind the Cathedral. ?In the evening, we went bowling at the local ‘Leisure Plex’. The girls enjoyed themselves, and some really scored well. ?
