Today at St. Aloysius College, the Capitanio students and their buddies had a farewell party. It was during the 6 and 7th period, and was organized by Carolyne Civetta, who is in charge of our students while they are at SAC. Our students helped to dress their buddies in yukata. They also did origami together. The SAC buddies then taught our students some dances: Macarena, YMCA, and the Chicken Dance. Everyone really enjoyed themselves. Refreshments were also provided: lemmington cakes, chips, and gummy bears. The SAC students also made a big ‘Farewell’ card for the Capitanio students. We thank everyone at SAC for their kindness to our students. (さらに…)

I was not able to visit with students today, so I just took some nature scenes, including the rain tank (water is so precious), and ‘Poppy’, the dog. I also photographed some of the Aboriginal musical instruments and a painting that are here in the convent. (さらに…)

Today is Palm Sunday. These pictures were taken around the chapel of the Sisters of St. Joseph, near Mary MacKillop College. Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week and re-enacts Jesus’ entering Jerusalem amid shouts of praise, only to be crucified days later. Next Sunday is Easter, the celebration of new life and the fact that God’s love for us is stronger than death. This is an important week for all Christians throughout the world.

Today I visited St. Peter’s Collegiate Girls’ School. Our Capitanio students attend regular classes. I was able to take photos only in a few classes. They were in different classes and some had the doors closed so I didn’t go in. I took photos of around the school, which is over 100 years old. The government has given many schools money for building, so St. Peter’s is building a new arts and performance center. They have a beautiful chapel where they have prayer together each morning. The morning assembly is from 8:30 to 9:10. The Period 1 is from 9:10 to 10:00 followed immediately by Period 2 from 10:00 to 11:50. The girls then have a 25 minute break (recess) during which most of them each part of their lunch! Lesson 3 and 4 run back to back 11:15 to 12:05, 12:05 to 12:55. Then there is lunch followed by periods 5 and 6. School ends at 3:30. Most of the Capitanio students then catch the city bus to return home. (さらに…)
