Today was a day off for our students. Tomorrow we will go to Malahide Castle and Howth. Today at Malahide, the rock star, Prince, is performing. They say that thousands of people will be there. Good thing we will go tomorrow! Today the girls will sleep in and go shopping. These photos are of around the school and convent.

Today was the last day at school for many of the foreign students. When we arrived in Stillorgan, at St. Raphaela’s School, there were nearly 400 students. Next week, on Tuesday there will be only 81 students. This evening we went to Dun Laoghaire, near the sea. The students (47), were separated into groups of four (mixed nationalities) and were given a paper with 16 questions to answer. The team who got all the answers on the ‘treasure hunt’ were to be given chocolate bars. But everyone did well, so everyone got some candy. The evening was very nice. It was cloudy, but not too cold and very little wind. All enjoyed it.

This afternoon we visited Trinity College and the Book of Kells. Trinity College is one of the oldest and most?prestigious?universities in Ireland. It is about 400 years old. ?We were able to view, even for just a short time, the famous Irish medieval gospel manuscripts, principally the Book of Kells, the Book of Armagh and the Book of Durrow. From here we moved into the Long Room, which is the main chamber of the Old Library. It is nearly 65 meters in length. We also saw Ireland’s oldest harp. We were not permitted to take photographs in these areas. As we were leaving the university, a priest on a bicycle stopped and asked if we would like to see the University Chapel. It isn’t usually open to the public, so this was a great privilege. ?He had the keys and opened the Chapel doors for us. It was very beautiful. We all thanked him for his kindness in letting us see this Chapel.

Tonight was Culture Night. The Capitanio students sang “The Power of Your Love”, and then they danced to the music, “Maru maru mori mori”. After the dance, they invited other students to dance with them. A lot of students danced together. At the end of their performance, they gave each student and leader an origami which they had prepared. After this, an Italian boy played the guitar and an Italian group sang a song. These were the only two groups to perform, so after this the Disco Dance began. Our students danced every dance, so they were tired. They really enjoyed themselves this evening.

After classes and lunch, we went on the Liffey River Cruise. ?The cruise began near the Daniel O’Connell Street Memorial. There are over 15 bridges connecting one part of Dublin with the other. ?We saw he Half-penny bridge (1816), the O’Connell bridge (1880), and many others. We also saw some old sailing ships. We were lucky to have had beautiful weather today.
