Easter Sunday, March 31, 2013

Today is Easter Sunday, a day when Christians throughout the world celebrate Christ’s Resurrection from the dead. It is a celebration of life over death and light over darkness. Many of our students will be going with the host families to church this day. It is a deep experience of the culture of the Australian people. ?The pictures were taken at St. Ignatius Parish, which is about a 3 minute walk from Mary MacKillop College. ?

Good Friday, March 29, 2013

From today to Easter Monday there is no school for all the students. The Capitanio students will be with their host families or doing their favorite hobby: shopping.

Today is Good Friday which commemorates Jesus Christ’s passion and death to redeem all people. ?On Holy Thursday, after the Last Supper, Jesus went out into the garden of?Gethsemane, where he would be later arrested and put on trial. He was condemned to die on the cross. Good Friday is?usually a day of prayer, penance and fasting, which will prepare us for the great feast of the Resurrection. ?

Holy Thursday, March 28, 2013

Today is Holy Thursday, so all 3 school, MMC, OLSH, and SAC had only a half day of school. At SAC, during 1st period, there was a prayer service in the Sr. Judith Redden Centre for all the students and teachers. Some students prepared the prayer and presented it, while the choir sang. There was a great sense of reverence as the students presented the passion of Christ. This evening, Christians throughout the world will celebrate Holy Thursday, which commemorates Jesus’ Last Supper. This event is the beginning of the Easter Triduum.

After the prayer service, students went to their classes. I met Sr. Judith Redden, who will be retiring as Principal at the end of 1st Term, Mar. 12. She has been the Principal for 30 years. Beginning with the 2nd Term, April 29, the new Principal, Ms. Pat McEvoy will take over. Ms. McEvoyis a graduate of SAC. ?

Today was a cloudy day with soft showers now and then, but it was warm. In the morning, as I waited for the bus to go into the city, there was a beautiful rainbow in the sky.

I visit the Capitanio students at SAC. ?They were with their buddies for the 1st and 2nd periods. During the 3rd and 4th period they visit the kindergarten through 2nd year primary classes. They enjoyed being with the little ones. Some of these wanted to eat and play with our students during lunch time. I think some of our St. Capitanio girls would love to bring some of their new found friends back to Japan! ?

Today I visited MMC students. They had a music period and then went into their classes with their buddies. ?Some had Italian, ?PE, and math. A few had home economics, during which they made sushi! At recess, 11 AM, ?almost everyone eats their lunch because they are hungry. Lunch is at 1:30, so it’s a long wait. Many of the students who went kayaking yesterday had rosy cheeks from the sun. It was almost 29 degrees yesterday but cloudy. Today the high is 36!!!! and sunny. ?But it’s a dry heat so it’s not too bad if you sit in the shade.

Some of the students spend as much time as possible with their buddies so that their English speaking and listening abilities will improve. This is very good. ?
